Lower unit reseal, where to mount the shaft seals?

Hi everyone,
I'm preparing for a lower unit reseal of my 1989 60hp J60TLCEA. Should I place the new prop/drive shaft seals exactly where the old seals were or should there be a small offset so that a sealing lip will run on a new (unworn) portion of the shaft? What's your experience? The manual doesn't say anything about it.

I haven't dropped the lower unit yet, so I don't know. I just want to hear what you've experienced.
I read in an old car repair manaual to mount the crankshaft seal with a 3mm offset. Maybe shaft wear is increased with (salt) water around.
