Hello all. I just purchased an 85ESL691 85PH johnson. I have been searching the forums and still have some questions about my old engine. I had the carbs serviced this spring, new plugs, and lower unit lubed. since then I have tried twice in the water- -both times the engine will run fine for 5-10 minutes, then when I slow down to idle, it will stall if I try to either put into forward and go faster or remain in neutral and rev up the throttle. The shifting seems to act up at this time as well. I have tried to choke and this does not help. I am wondering if it could be the water pump (never had that changed yet) or maybe electrical (wires all appear original or very old to say the least), maybe the fuel pump or filter? I swear last time I smelled some kind of burnt smell when these symptoms appeared. Any help greatly appreciated.
