1977 Evinrude 70 - Tach Install?

Looking at tuning up a new to me 1977 Evinrude 70. To check the RPM's at idle and WOT, should I install a tach or is there a manual way of checking it with a portable device?

Is it easy to install a tach on this outboard? It think it would be nice to have a tach in the dash.

They make tachs that you just hold close to one of the plug wires to check the RPM.
There should be a wire coming out of your electrical harness to hook up a tach, not hard to do.
