First post.

I've read a TON on this site and have found some fantastic info. Great job.

Based on what I read, I made a simple video of me testing the compression and spark on my 1988 30HP Johnson.

It's my understanding you need to ground or load your coils when testing. I read that leaving a spark plug wire disconnected can damage the coils or power pack.

You don't have to screw the compression gauge in that tight. After all, it's just an o-ring you're dealing with.

should the throttle be closed to full.That's how I was taught

i agree, the coil not being tested should be grounded. you can get away without doing it sometimes....but its not worth the risk of frying an expensive part . jmo

Sorry to revive an old thread, but what is the best way to ground the other coil?

Yes, you should start your own thread.
You can just use a jumper wire and ground the other plug wire to ground if you are using a single post spark checker.
