Well, it sounds like you should get top dollar for it. Unfortunately though, no outboard in this current time is even getting close to top dollar. You might get out of it, about the same as what you spent for the coils and waterpump impeller. You're so much better off keeping it and using it. The 1957 10hp was about the best 10's built. Much better than the '58 and newer.

With out pictures it's hard to see the condition.

If it has the pressure tank and as you say runs great, around here I would think about $500 at most. If your selling, start at $700 and keep dropping until it sells. I see similar motors, maybe not as nice, for sale for $300 to $400 and they are not selling.

Those motors are beauties. 1956 and a 1957. The best Evinrude Sportwins built.

Yea, I don't think there is much of a market these days. The boat and RV market has really tanked. Yea, tell your friend to sell it to you. You would have a great motor.

I wouldn't mind finding a Sportwin of either of these two models, myself. The '58 looks like the little Fisherman in my signature, but it has the smaller 4 bolt lower unit. Cool lookin' old motor, but the lower units in the '58 and up, degraded and went sour too easily. Once water gets in the oil, they got chewed up pretty fast. These two models in your pic, have the heftier 5 bolt lower unit, that was used on the 18's. Having half the horsepower that the lower unit was designed to take, they held up really well. That same lower unit was later used in the 25's even, and it still worked well.

aj12 - Those are beautiful motors, If you have a chance to grab one, for use or display it would be very nice.

If for use it might need a carb kit, impeller, and maybe new coils. It would look fantastic behind any small tinny. I rebuilt a 57 Johnson 10 hp, pushes my 14'er about 15 mph. They are really nice durable motors and easy to work on.

I recently sold one for $160, new coils, pump, etc and running perfect. But it didn't look that good.

EDIT: Typo. Make that $260
