Hi all, Sort of new to the boat scene. I was given a 1963 Sea ray with a 63 75hp Johnson motor. I took my restored baby out and when i gave it full throttle I could only get like 5 to 10 mph out of the engine. I had no high speed. can anyone help me as to what would cause this? Thanks to all that help.

Did the engine sound like it was reving up properly?
Have you checked spark and compression on all cylinders?
Is the fuel fresh and has proper amount of oil in it?
Does it help if you squeeze the primer bulb?

The engine runs good at idle. the fuel is new and mixed properly. compression on all four cyliders are within specs. Pumping the fuel bulb? Not sure what you mean by that. Are you meaning to pump it at full throttle? I was wondering if this might be a timing issue? If so would anyone have the specs of how to do so.

Check your spark on it with an open air gap spark tester. Should jump a 1/4 " open air gap.
