My 1996 evinrude 200 hp has begun to stall at low idle recently. I changed the really old fuel filter and got some contamination of debris in the fuel line. The debris is the cause of the stalling. Do I need to rebuild the carbs or is there some thing easier that I can do?

A carb rebuild is the best answer. However, if the carbs are like my '98 Johnny 150HPV6, there is a cover on the side of the carb covering the end of the idle needle, and some of the idle passages. Maybe you can blast this area (remove cover) with some gumout and clean out the junk.

Of course this may be harder than just rebuilding the carbs....
