Motor stuck in Down position. Bad tilt assist cylinder

Hi my 50 horse Evinrude is stuck in the down position. The tilt assist cylinder is frozen. Do I need to replace this or can I just take it out and chuck it. Motors light enough that I can lift it myself. Any thoughts?

Have you priced the replacement cost of that cylinder yet?
If the motor can maintain it's proper trim without the cylinder, then I'd consider removing it. I've had a few that did not have a reverse lock and it's OK if you're careful.
