Evinrude 8 hp help, reverse adjustment?

Hi I have a 1991 ruddy 8 that the PO says pops out of reverse gear, but if he holds his hand on the shift handle it wont pop out of reverse, operates fine/normal in fwrd gear, so my question .. is there a adjustment some where to to tweek the revers shift rods lever etc. or is the dawggonedoggone. any help much appreciated.

Sounds like a bad dog and gear.

Pull out the bearing housing and check for wear, if nothing, check the cam #29 for wear as well as play in the linkage system. Might even be the gear in the upper end of the shift rod under the carb.

Thanks' yea that sounds like a good idea. I just made the tool to pull housing.. I'v done it before on a 9.9 its just been a while' should be about the same. (I hope)

Bearing house attached with 2 screws, but there stops the similarities.
