Need to know..... Is there a gear shift lever on the port side of that engine or not?

On that model, there should be a good size plate on the front portion of the swivel bracket just below the carrying handle which has the model and serial number listed. Also, there may be a small quarter size core plug on the powerhead with those same numbers.

If a generator exists, it will be on the opposite the electric starter on the other side of the carburetor with a belt running from it to a pulley on top of the flywheel.

What do you need to know about the wiring?

Joe's question seems to be asking if it is manual or electric shift. There was no electric shift 60hp motor in 1964, they were all manual shift. The model # 60453s was supplied.

The rest of the reply is correct, a generator was an optional accessory, opposite the starter.

FR.... For some unknown reason, my mind was locked in on a 40hp, apparently a senior moment.

Thanks guys...there is a belt driven piece of equipment coming from the motor head area ! But in the power block there is a diagram under the lid...it's showing the brown, yellow and blue wires need not be connected...they have numbers on them...it seems like the ALT/GEN system has been taken out of the loop ? I feel that if I have the Gen..then why not use it !! So if my thoughts are correct then i need your Veterans wiring knowledge to get threw this...what info do you need to walk this 5yr old threw this ? I can load pictures and give great descriptions....????

If the engine had a generator, there would be Two (2) belt driven devices on that engine.

A generator would be right alongside of the carburetor.

The belt driven component to the rear of the engine is the ignition distributor, either a magneto or automotive device.
