I have a 1990 Johnson 120 maybe . Unsure of the year, model # is JL120TLCCA. Will fuel pump part # 438559 work on my motor or should I buy a kit and rebuild my VRO. I have been told it can't be done right. I really don'y care for the VRO mainly because of the price to replace it.

Thanks for any help.

Re: 120 Johnson year and fuel pump

Can't help you with the part #, jeff.

Your outboard is a 1988 long shaft 120 with PT&T. Good engine when converted to run on premix. Check the Top Secret File and the Engine FAQs Forum for thoughts on disabling the VRO.

Good luck. :)

Converting from VRO to alternate pump

Converting from VRO to alternate pump

I have a 1990 120 Johnson model # JL120TLCCA, not sure about the year. My Question is, Will pump 438559 pump enough gas and work on my motor in place of the VRO? My VRO is Bad and I do not like the cost to replace it. I have been told by locals do not trust a rebuild kit they do not work.

Thanks for any help

jeff,

JB is correct. The model # you stated is for a 1988 J120, and the fuel pump assembly is part #0174619. Not sure where you got the other part number from but here is a link to the BRP web-site with diagrams, part #'s and ordering info. You can find after market products for your motor but beware you get what you pay for.

Fuel Pump - Sierra*

(40% Off $81.99)
Part # 18-7352

Part # 18-7352

For: 25-55 HP 1976-89 ( non VRO ) ...was told by a local shop that this pump will work on a 140 motor...it has been on my boat for a year now an no problems at all.... just make sure it will bolt too your motor....I pluged the pulse line on the block that went too the vro and took out the screw that will allow a fuel pump too be bolted to the block....i have some pic's of this set up on here some where.

Not a mechanic, so possible dumb question - I'm trying to replace a cracked pump on a 120vro that was converted a long time ago, but can't find a number on the pump and can't find a three-line pump online anywhere that looks like it. Pulse line is currently connected and pump is mounted on a homemade bracket. If I replace with part# 18-7352 and plug the pulse line, how does the pump get pulse to operate properly? Can anyone suggest a different pump if #18-7352 is not the one I need? Got a pic of the pump, we'll see if it attaches...

this pump bolts right too the block....should have 2 bolt holes and 1 hole with a bolt are screw in it that will have to be removed that the fuel pump will use as a pulse...fuel pump has 3 holes 2 for bolts and 1 for pulse....I had some pics on the site somewhere been a long time.....
