I have a 94 evinrude 48spl with tilt assist. I replaced the plastic piece that attaches to the tilt assist lever and the wire moves freely....you can feel resistance on it like it's supposed to, when I say freely I mean like it's supposed to. But I still can't raise the motor. Can you guys point me in the right direction as what to check next.

If I remember right there was an adjustment on that cable. If not did you try to move the valve with a needle nose pliers ? If that cyl is bad start digging out the big bucks. It was a good idea in it's time but if you have to repair it today it sucks.

Thanks boobie....looks like my cyl is shot. Any suggestions as to how I can get to the cylinder to remove and replace it?

Either an OEM Factory service manual or you can go to shop.evinrude.com and look up the parts break down on it. There is a pin in the top of cyl ram and one on the bottom at the base of it. If the mtr has been in salt water it may be a real bi**h.
