Water is dripping from (hard to see while floating at the lake) starboard lower cylinder head area. It is dripping on the new cylinder head hose area. I have retorqued the heads once after break-in (book says 18-20 ft lbs.) Is it sometimes needed to tightened up to a higher torque? Say 22 or 25 to try to get this leak to stop? Or do I need to get new cylinder head gaskets? I will get it on muffs and run it tomorrow to see if while standing instead of floating I can pinpoint the leak.

The maximum torque to be applied to the cylinder head bolts is as you quoted.... 18 to 20 foot pounds. DO NOT exceed the 20 foot pound maximum or you will absolutely pull the aluminum threads out of the crankcase (block).

The torque sequence must be as follows (Numbers represent the head bolts).

9....10
5.....6
1.....2
4.....3
8.....7

Best to remove the head to inspect the sealing surfaces of the head and crankcase, clean the surfaces and install a new head gasket.

It the head new? Your statement is that it is dripping on the new head.. Why was it replaced? Next time you run the engine, see if you can determine if the water is leaking from the head gasket itself, or from the head cover gasket. Two different things. Always possible that the head is not perfectly flat. (was the engine ever significantly overheated?) If it is the head gasket, you'll have to pull the head anyway. Put the head on a flat surface (a pc of plate glass) and check for flatness.

It was the exhaust cover up at the top corner. I did not retorque these screws but they are now 9Nm. Leak stopped at least on muffs. Yea not the head gasket.
