I have been working on this Evinrude the past 2 months, simple things such as rebuilt everything under the flywheel on up,carb...etc...water pump oh yea....first time in the test tank I pumped up the gas tank gave her a little choke and ...BAM.....first pull she fires right up and purr's like you love to hear!...but we got a problem with a gas leak and it's coming from what appears to be a very tiny crack in the reed plate just behind the intake on the left side looking at the carb....not in a bolt hole area between the front and rear gasket's. Any one have a clue what to do? I have not pulled the carb and intake maniflod YET....got to think about this and need advice please.Otherwise she's a beautiful old motor!

Welcome to iboats.

Sweet motor, I have one too.

I am trying to envision where your leak is? Could you post a pic?

Im not sure how you are looking at the reed plate without pulling the intake manifold or carb?

Go to page 12 item# 5 ..part # 203267 page 13 ref...Leaf Plate..looking at the oic on the left side there is a elongated some what vertital slot at THAT corner it appears to be a crack in the plate between the gaskets...I can see it pumping gas out of it. I would say just by looking that the leaf plate is about 3/16" thick or so.....I'll work on getting a good picture when it is running.

Hightrim...I am looking at the edge of the reed plate sandwiched between the two gaskets...not looking at the entire reed plate....just where it is leaking gas....just enough of s crack to hang a pen knife blade.

OK you are going to have to open her up to investigate. Hopefully just a gasket issue.
