1955 7.5 drive shaft spring thing

1955 7.5 Evinrude - didn't expect this spring mechanism at the powerhead-driveshaft connection. It kinda came apart before I could see what order all the parts were assembled... was wondering if anyone had a diagram handy?

That is actually a pretty critical seal, have it fail, or mix up the order and kiss your powerhead goodbye.

Ahhh I see. While I was messing with arranging the parts in possible configurations, the carbon seal started to crumble... so I guess it's a good thing it came apart as it did so I know it needs replacing.
