Another one of my winter projects is adding a tell tale to my '67 Johnson 80hp. I'm doing for two reasons...First: to eliminated air pockets/hot spots in the water jacket. Second: I'm tired of running along on the water and periodically having to ask my son "can u see water coming out of the back of motor?".
I just ordered the parts(elbow, hose, and bulk head fitting). Just have to find a 1/8" pipe tap and 11/32" drill.
I've read the sticky on installing a tell-tale, but I just want to be sure I install it in the optimum location.
This location is my first choice (cyl #1 behind the head)
This is my 2nd choice (cyl#1 IN the head itself)
The pics are of my '67 parts motor, so I'm going to drill into this one first as a dry run cause I haven't drilled/tapped a hole before. Seems pretty straight forward, but I want to make sure I can do it properly BEFORE drilling into my good motor.
What should I use on the elbow threads? Teflon tape?
Tips? Suggestions?
