OMC Control Question

I have a 1990 Evinrude 175 with a OMC binnacle mount, single lever control.
How do you operate the fast idle?

Grab the bottom of the lever and pull it out, away from the base. This will disengage the gears and allow you to advance lever for high idle.

Bring the lever back to the Neutral position and the lever will go back into place.

I have had this boat for over a year and was never able to fiqure that throtle operation out. I had assumed that a part of the conrtol was missing.
