Evinrude 28hp year?

Can someone please help me identify the year of this engine? I found a lot of pictures of 28Hp, but most have a lighter blue color. I'm looking to buy it, so I don't have it yet to identify the serial number. Just looking for a rough estimate. The owner wasn't sure.

Could be anywhere from 1986 to 1997. Try to find a model number on the motor. With that, we can better help you.

Check for a small riveted tag on the transom clamp. It's usually on the left side, but it may be elsewhere. You can also look for a freeze plug on the engine block itself.
