johnson tach question

iv got a 1975 johnson 70hp. can i run a quicksilver tachometer on it? someone told me running a wrong tach can really mess with the motor's electric. is this true?

If a Quicksilver OUTBOARD tack with a 6pulse setting, you may use it.

Tach shouldn't put any inputs in a motor's electric system. The only connection to the motor is via the pulse wire (grey wire in your control). As the previous poster said, as long as its a 6-pulse tach, you are good to go. Wire power to your dashboard, grey wire in the control is the signal.
