1996 -1997 125 Johnson, crossflow,looper, or other?

Going to look at a used Johnson 125. Owner thinks its a 1997, I will get numbers of it to confirm. Question is, is that a crossflow, looper, or possibly an Ocean Runner? Once I see it i think I can tell which it is, just curious. I'll post the numbers after I go see it.

Not needed. Went to see motor. It was a 115 Crossflow. Kinda pissed I drove all the way to see it when the guy could have been honest and said it was a 115 from the beginning.

You're right. I've never heard of a 1997 125 OMC product. I'd have hit the guy up for some gas money. He sounds like a real A** Hole.

Actually they made a 125 for some years, I think 1998 was the last year. Thats why I went to see this one, I was hoping it was a looper

the heads look very similar to the 60 degree loopers, except they have gaskets instead of O-rings....the older crossflows had the thermostats down low on the bubble back...but those 96-97-98 125s had thermostats up in the heads like the loopers.... I dont know if they were crossflows or loopers...the cover design matches the crossflow shape....

they made 130 hp ocean runners

Thanks Bob. The engine I looked at was most definitely a crossflow. Basically the same as I have. Just seemed a bit low for the guy to advertise it as something it wasnt. It was a Craigslist ad and I was going to post something there to warn others but hopefully the guy corrects his ad.

just remember, many people are not boat-outboard experts , thats why we ahve a long running thread called craiglist TLC ads!!!

mostly people have no idea what they talking about...but mostly it isnt malicious
