Need some help to see if anybody has done this before. My tach is old and very worn to the point where you can't see it. I need a new one but didn't have the money. I got a free set from a friend who works for a Suzuki dealer. I thought it would be pretty easy since my motor is pretty much a Suzuki engine with just johnson put on the side. Come to find out I had to do some reseach to get this to work. I had to get the right wires to match.... This is what I got

Johnson wiring Suzuki Tach

Violet --12vdc------------------------Gray--12vdc
Black--ground------------------------Black--ground
gray--Tach---------------------------Yellow--Tack
Tan/yellow--No oil---------------------Blue/black
Tan/black--low oil---------------------Not used
Tan/orange--check engie--------------Green/White
Tan-- Over heat-----------------------Green/yellow
Tan/Blue--Alert Horn------------------- Hooked to Tan/yellow--Tan/orange--Tan
Pink--not used rev light

This how I have it hooked up. The only issue is the tach doesnt work. I get lights, warning system works. But the tach just jumps up to 500rpms and stays there.

anybody have any ideas?

Re: Johnson Tach replacement

What year and size Suzuki did it come off of and what do you have? Alternator poles may not be the same.
