Hello All: I'm looking at a 2005 90 HP J90PL 2 stroke carburetor, any one has experience with them? please help, they are the main reason to purchase a Montauk. I don't like the idea of gas mixing oil but if they are really reliable and the carburetor doesn't clog often then should I buy this?. Thank a thousand

With good care that is a good, reliable engine, merlotstone. I am not sure what your question is, though. Are you concerned about mixing your own fuel or are you concerned about automatic oil injection?

That motor should come with a factory installed OMS oil mixing system. These systems are very good and reliable. I would recommend you test the alarms and the OMS pump, and if it checks out, use it.

I thank you so much for your help. The reason is I always want the 4 strokes so I don't have to worry about the Caburetor. I have now the Suzuki 2001 4 strokes and it never let me down. But there is another Montauk that came with the 2005 johnny and I'm thinking of upgrading, just wondering how much care need to have to keep this Johnson running. I buy the boat to have fun, not to keep up too much with maintaining.

2 cycle motors can have less maintenance issues than 4 cycle motors. Keep the fuel fresh, use the motor a lot and you may never need to clean the carbs. Also pay attention to the gearcase oil, grease fittings and corrosion and she will work reliability.
