Evinrude 9.9 hp identification is missing from cowling. How do you ID the year?

I bought a 1974 -1976 Evinrude 9.9 hp outboard and the nameplate is missing. Using part numbers, it seems to be a 1976. Are there any other numbers on the engine that I can use to ID the years

There should be a welch plug, about the size of a quarter, round and shiny that will have the model number/serial number stamped on it. Post that number.

Thanks for the reply. The welsh plug on the block must of been change sometime in it's life. no numbers on it.

The ID tag on the transom mount is missing? And there is nothing on the welch plug? Hmmmmm.....
Can you post a picture of the cowl?

Cowling is 1976.
