Will a tilt and trim unit from a mid 80s 150hp Johnson fit a 1977 140 hp Johnson?

I have a 1977 140hp v4 that does not have tilt and trim. Would a tilt and trim unit from a mid 80's 150hp work on this?

Yes, BUT check the wiring on the electric motor. The 1977 electric motor incorporated 3 wires, the later model PTT you're asking about might be the two wire type.

The 3 wire type uses a solenoid for the up mode and direct wiring for the down mode. The two wire type uses the dual relay setup for both modes.

My 77 doesn't have any wiring or relays to run a PTT. I assume this could be added as long as the unit will physically fit.
