1973 Evinrude 18HP model #18304A (need parts)

I have a 1973 Evinrude 18HP model #18304A. I am needing a clutch dog , forward gear and reverse gear. Evinrude part numbers (clutch dog # 0316501) (forward gear #0384566) (reverse gear # 0316504). Does anyone know if there is another engine that uses these same parts? Or where I can find used or cheaper parts than what Evinrude sells.

Many 18-25 J/E motors will use the same parts. Call Tim's outboard 218-682-2331 w/model number and see if they have good/used available. If no, go to 'top secret files' at the beginning of this forum and search 'salvage yards'. Good luck, and welcome to iboats!

316501 clutch dog fits 9.9 & 15hp 1974-78 (possibly more); 18, 20, 25hp 1971-76. New number is 390030 dog & cradle kit.

384566 fits 18, 20, 25hp 1971-76. New number is 390972

316504 fits 18, 20, 25hp 1971-76

I was also thinking that if I could not find good used parts that I might would weld the gears I have and cut new edges on them so they would not slip. Have you heard or tried doing this to make these parts work?
