Pressure tank question?

There seams to be some seepage around the top of the tank. It holds pressure and pumps up.

Is there any thing special to know about pulling the top off and replacing the gasket or

should I maybe do a conversion to single line. The motor is a Johnson QD-18.

Thanks

Chuck

If that small leakage is your only problem, simply replace the gasket. Nothing complicated about it, very easy.

If you decide to convert to a fuel pump setup, buy a regular tank rather than trying to convert the pressure tank. You can sell the pressure tank later for a good sum very easily BUT you do not want it to leak.

Where exactly is it leaking? Rebuild kits can be found on ebay for a fair price. If you are going to keep it you may as well do the whole thing, diaphragm and all. That is were they mainly leak.

You can also buy kits at vintageoutboard.com. Complete kits are $28.00 there. The QD's are very simple to convert to a single line set up, should you decide to. 1960 and later was all single line models and you just need the bypass cover and fuel pump to convert it. The fuel line connector on the motor side will need to be changed as well, but those are easy to find too.

I've had tanks bubble and leak at the gasket but sometimes it doesn't affect operation if it's not too much. But as mentioned, the gasket is easy to change, and they are easy to make also if you have the old one for a template.
