Mine has dried and "crumbed" off to the point of contaminating my powerhead. I have removed it and need to replace it. Any suggestions? How about fire proof spray foam?

The foam was put there to cut down on mtr noise. If you don't mind a louder mtr, just leave it out. BUT, get it all cleaned out so it doesn't get in your carb intakes.

It didn't get that way over night. If you don't mind the sound, clean it up real good and leave it alone. Personally, I don't see a heck of a lot of difference. Maybe if you had a side by side comparison.....

BTW. gasoline disolves many kinds of styrofoam type stuff. That would leave worse problems than you have now.

Yea, foam rubber does not hold up very good. The sooner you get it out of there, the better. As boobie stated, that crap will get sucked into the carb and creat bigger problems.
