i have a '73 65hp johnson that i had put on my boat this past spring. Motor runs good but the control cables were literally twice as long as they needed to be, it would shift into forward and reverse but wouldn't throttle up cause they were bound up. I bought new cables and put them on, but the first time i took it out i could shift into reverse and throttle up just fine but trying to go into forward it wouldn't actually go into gear but instead rev real high then drop into gear(only happened once for fear for my transom). i got the boat home and tried to figure out where i went wrong but now i just have seemed to make it worse. I can still get reverse fine but i can't even shift into forward. i think something is getting screwed up in the control box with the levers to put it into gear but i'm lost. Need help asap... thanks in advanced!
