1972 Evinrude 40 HP cable and control question

I have the Johnson shipmaster control unit and am looking for replacement cables that will fit my '72 40 HP outboard. I looked in several places but I can't tell which ones are the correct ones. Also, how do you replace the cables in the control box end? I don't know how to disconnect the cable from the controller ( I don't want to force it)

The required cables depend on the CONTROL. Assuming your control is pre-1979, it takes type 400 cables. If 1979-up, it takes type 479 cables. Get them right here at iboats.

The type 400 cable end is held on by setscrews. The ends don't come off the type 479 cables.
