Re: Johnson crank shaft service

You are going to find out that very little can be done for marine cranks. Some shops out there will say they can refurb...but the consensus of opinion is that they cannot be repaired. Has to do with the hardness of the crank vs the hardness of the repair. I am no welder, but that is the conclusion I have come to.

About all they can do is polish it. There are no over size bearings available.

Re: Johnson crank shaft service

Well check around some more...that was my opinion, and I sure would like to find a reputable marine crank repair outfit. I am going to try a process called spray welding on a four stroke crank...1999 Suzuki DF70. The key difference here seems to be the fact that this engine uses bearing shells, not rollers, and is therefore different regarding hardness. We will see....

Good luck.
