I put a carburetor from a 1987 15 hp johnson, on a 1994 johnson 15 hp as the plastic top of the carb body for the 94 was cracked & was badly warped at the screw holes, the carb from the 87 fit fine but I had to change the choke/butterfy and loose the silencer, the engine runs ok but after it gets warmed up if it dies it very hard to re-start, the compression (pull start) is 70 psi (?) both cylinders. What i was wondering was if the later model 94 & the older 87 had the same cubic inch displacement? thought if they don't jetting mite be the issue? a new carb for the 94 (plastic top & bowl type) is around $280.00 ouch!! and given the compression and overall age / condition of this 94 I don't think its worth spending that amount, any help thoughts appreciated.
