Rectifier/Regulator and Stator testing - 1987 90 HP Evinrude E90TLCUR

Accumulated a lot of info from here, maybe so much that I'm confused. Just concise short references and or links would be great to save your time. Here are the facts:

1) Tach stopped working

2) Burned out a brand new Walmart 95 battery in 3 months in my driveway.

3) Made my own DVA. Tried it but not sure how to interpret it, readings flying all over the place but within a range.

4) printed CDI instructions tried steps 1 and 2 of rectifier tests with DVA while motor running(see 3).

5) Have not tried Joe Reeves rectifier test and not sure which type of rectifier I have.

OK, I see from another thread that I have a water cooled Rectifier and use the Joe Reeves test on Tach/Rectifier to figure out which one of those is the problem. Any feedback on STATOR testing and DVA reading interpretations welcome.
