Working on a 55 HP Johnson, 1969 Electric shift, Lower Unit.
At the begining of spring I heard some clunking and drained the oil. I found metal in the oil, so just today I took it apart.
I found that I broke FWD and Pinion gear.
I have all items removed. Execpt the oil pump. After I removed the electric selionds for the shifting, I look down into the area and see a small round zerk fitting looking nub, where the shifting selionds connect.
Here is my issue.
I can NOT get the oil pump out, because the nub is hitting the case when I slide the pump back.
The pump will slide foward and back, but I dont know how to deal with this gear nub. The book dont mention it and I cant get it to move down or back.
It is acting like it is part of the oil pump.

Anyone have any advise?
TIA

Dave

I solved my issue.
I was looking around and found a photo of the shift system.
I saw the nub thing attached. That got me thinking.
I just used my long mechanical fingers and grabed the nub and lifted it out.
Then i just pulled the oil pump out.
