I need to replace my warning horn on a 1989 Evinrude 175xp...searched to no avail.

In order to purchase the correct replacement at Radio Shack I need to know if it is a 2 or 3 lead buzzer? The existing buzzer (aftermarket) was a 2 lead but I want to be sure...

Thanks!!

Bite the bullet and invest in a proper original or Sierra alarm horn to be sure you get the correct signals, temp, low-oil, no-oil!
The new horns have 3 wires.

I searched and couldnt find a Sierra part that matches your description...would you happen to have a part #?

Also, the aftermarket alarm that was in the boat definitely did sound off correct for overheat and fuel restriction...it is VRO delete so low/no oil is no applicable.

THANKS!

And also, if I wanted to wire a 3-wire switch, would that even be possible on the old circuit (the various alarms are triggered by grounding, not by sending voltage, therefore you couldnt use a signal wire, correct?)

If installing a 3-wire switch (B+ -ign-start), you will loose the stop (ground) and choke (purple/white) function.

Ahh I meant a 3-wire buzzer, not a 3 wire ignition switch...

The wiring for my boat as far as I can tell is hot to one lead of the buzzer and the tan wire to the other....though wouldn't this put 12v to the power pack tan wire if the buzzer is tripped (which is a bad thing)? Or is that why the blocking diode is installed?

The self test horns are 3 wire. That's the best one to use.

You need a signal wire to switches (temp)
You need a B+ (12V) to make the horn working.
You need a ground for the horn self-test when ign is put 'ON'.
The original has protective diodes!!
