Replacing water pump on 1985 commercial Johnson

I'm going to replace the water pump on my 85 25hp johnson commercial tiller, I have replaced the water pump before on my 90hp 88 johnson and also another 92 merc. But I have never replaced one with this older style LU. Someone told me in another post the linkage release bolt is actually on the leg behind a plate with two screw? I have found the plate and took it off and there is two bolts behind that..does the lower bolt release the lower unit?

Yes, remove the lower screw only and that will release the shift rod linkage.

Make sure when you put the L/U back up, you get the bolt from the shift linkage to go thru the gruve in the lower shift rod.

Thanks for the tips I just ordered the part should be here next week and ill give it a try should not be to hard...sounds easier then dropping the LU on my 90
