I have read numerous posts on the subject here, but seems like none of them fit my engines style of releasing. I followed my manual and removed the clip, but for some odd reason, It doesnt really explain the next step. It looks like my rod comes up and connects to the linkage with a sharp pointed pin . I attempted to take pictures, but the area it is at the camera refused to focus on it and opted to focus on objects that were closer, I will post them anyways, I drew arrows and circles where the pin is, to help you zero in

Yeah that's why I am having trouble with, have a manual with diagrams, but getting to it and getting it to release is what I am having trouble with, have tried everything I can think of. A diagram helps me little as I know what part needs to be released, I just cant seem to get it to

Daviet has the right idea. 1/4" drive tools work wonders. That's all I've ever used to get at the linkage.

The bane of my existence has been defeated, took a 3/8" socket, was playing with a 1/4 and swore i had it on there but nothing then had a epiphany and viola, sometimes the hardest things are the simplest...go figure

Took me almost as long to retrieve the pin as it did to remove it because it fell when i pulled it out, man they dont give you any room to work down there

Patience is the key. Hitting it with a hammer or kicking it does not help, don't ask me how I know this.

Hitting it with a hammer...useless....Kicking it however, causes pain and pain triggers your fight or flight response, offering moments of extreme clarity! sometimes kicking things does help!

Go to Harbor Freight or a local parts house and buy some mechanical fingers which you can use to get the bolt in position when reinstalling it. Makes life eaisier. Or else tape the bolt to the socket. Both work. Mechanical fingers also work good if you drop the bolt again. LOL.

Personaly, I think the person that designed the V4 should have to, walk the plank. Changing T Stats, or voltage Rec/Rec (had to remove flywheel, and stator), and changing water pump, are a PITA. I have a 1987 90HP VRO, and its a good motor, but not easy to work on.
