I am new to this. I talked to our local boat place and he says he charges 150 dollars to check out the engine and that includes adjust carbs and compression test and electrical check and a few other things. Would this be worth it?

if he does a thorough job and test DVA from stator and power pack and rectifier/regulator, test each coil, that is about right.
