Torque specs and tightening pattern for 1967 Johnson 80hp?

I asked this question in my "stripped spark plug hole" thread, but it turned into a "Time Sert" discussion.

My head gaskets are arriving tomorrow(ahead of my service manual). Anyone know the pattern I should tighten the bolts? And to what torque?

You should wait for the manual, it has all the information in there. Definitely a good investment!

The manual went sent "Media Mail"(USPS) on Thursday and won't arrive til Tuesday! It's ridiculous, the manual was sent from NJ which is like 6 hours from me.

I got mine from Ebay, took about a week to get here! Patience my friend, we in the same situation - the manual might even help you resolve your problem! :)

I certainly hope so. It would be nice to get the boat out for a day before the snow flies.

I think I've found the answer....20ft lbs torque(if bolts are 1/2") 16-18ft lbs if bolts are 7/16" and tighten in a spiral pattern starting in the middle of the head.
