70hp Crankshaft

I have a 1977 70hp johnson and was wondering if the crank from a 1988 70hp will interchange and if not what are the differences in the two cranks? Thanks for any help

They are quite different. The 1988 uses a fine spline connection to the driveshaft, while your 1977 uses a 4-spline connection.

From what i have found the 88 still used the 4 large splines at the driveshaft end so what i need to know more then anything is if the stroke and bearing journals are the same
