new boat and engine - Shetland 535 & Johnson 30 HP twin stroke outboard -

everything in my favor is going against me


I have been through the lists looking for my engine - a Johnson two stroke numbered BJ30BALCO

The closest I can find to the number is 1998 BJ30BALECS

can anyone help me out here please as need a starter motor fitting - I believe there is a place to mount it

its a 1985, made in belgium.

The critical part in the number is the 'CO' stating model year.
The rest are mainly 'E' electric.
Some 'specials' might be there, but then it is normally a comment in the parts list with reference.

item 28 on the pic below this is wired to somewhere beneath the flywheel

shouldn't this socket supply the battery??

the bloke that had the boat before me used to recharge the battery every time he took the boat out

I am sure another engine I had the battery was fed from this socket

but I cannot find a rectifier anywhere - so perhaps that's why he didn't use it - advice please

That socket is only on the manual start engines and may be used for nav lights only. If you want to charge a battery, you need to buy #6, rectifier as well. Cut the wires to the socket and connect to the rectifier (follow colors). The red from rectifier to battery and a separate ground from battery to engine ground.
