1990 120 Johnson. Wont throttle up. Good compression and spark all 4 cylinders. About to do a carb rebuild. One side at a time.

But I?m confused. Cylinders 1 & 3 good spark but no change when I pull wires.

(Cylinders Engine Rear)
4 3
V4
2 1

When I choke the carbs with my palm that are on the same side as not working cylinders the engine begins to cough. If I choke the diagonal carbs nothing changes. Making me suspect these are the bad carbs. So my question is: Are the carbs NOT front-to-back but diagonally? Like this?

Front of Engine looking at Carbs:

3
4
1
2

Thanks in advance for some quick answers. Not much summer left.

First, lets get you using the right numbers. Looking at the back your cylinder numbers are:

2 1
4 3

One way to think about it is starting at the top, work down.

Also, the starboard carb throats go to the port side cylinders and vice-versa.

Thanks iwombat. So to be clear: If I am looking from the top at the flywheel, the cylinder and corresponding carb would be in an "X" pattern. Sorry for seeming dimwitted.
