Hot Engine, Need Help!

My 1997 Evinrude 25 hp, 2 stroke with the automatic fuel/oil mix system really got hot yesterday while running at approx. 5 mph. after about 20 minutes. The discharge water stream felt cool to warm but not hot. It took the engine better than an hour to cool down. Any suggestions or where to start looking for the cause of the problem will be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Hot Engine, Need Help!

The pee stream won't get hot as the water bypasses the block. Check your thermostat for blockage it is the big plastic nut above the top cylinder. I would also test your temp sensor to make sure it is working correctly.

Also you need to get rid of the oil injection on that engine. It is unreliable and it will cost you your engine. Unplug the low/no oil sensor unbolt the tank and remove it along with the oil mixing unit. Hook the fuel line that goes to the carbs directly to the fuel filter. Premix your oil 50:1 and that engine will last for years.

The oil mixing unit uses check valves to prevent the gasoline from entering the oil tank. They have a high failure rate and when they fail the check valves will not stop your oil tank from filling with gas and before you know it you are no longer running any oil. Because the oil tank is fuel you will never recieve a low oil or no oil alarm.
