I have a 2000 Johnson 250 #j250vzsss I'm running a 17 pitch prop getting 5000 rpms should I drop the pitch to get a higher rpm or stay . Does anyone have this engine ? What's your wot rpm and prop pitch thx .

With a lightly loaded boat it should hit around 5800 rpm. Higher rpms never hurt a mtr unless excessive. Lugging a mtr is bad for it.

What do u consider lightly usually the fuel is full 120 gal maybe 800 lbs in people and 100 lbs ice , gear ,poles , drinks ,etc. On a 4000 lb 24 ft center

In any case, 5000 RPM is WAY too low. 5800 is what I'd shoot for. Make sure set up is right 1st. AV plate should just run dry on top is motor height is right. Then mess with prop pitch. You'll likely need a 15" pitch for sure or lower.
