Hey i started this in another thread but I thought it might be better answered in a new one. Does anyone know if the carbs from the early 1960's will interchange with the later models. I know they went from a heated water style choke to an electric one in '64 I think. Most people I talked to say they don't have much luck getting the headed water models to work. I'd like to go to a later model carb in the same hp to get that new style choke. What would be involved?

They went to a heated air auto-choke. That didn't work either. You can put on a later one with an electric solenoid on it and ignore all of the auto-choke stuff.
Mine has a heated air system (blocked off) with a electric solenoid, but I still normally manually choke it for about 10 seconds when first starting it and don't have to choke it again for the rest of the day.

Ok so the solenoid models were in the '70s right? Will the carbs mate up with the intake manifold as a drop in? Im guessing I'll probably have to sync it as well....

Mine has a solenoid and it's a '69. I believe they have choke solenoids on the 1964 and later electric shift motors.

they had electric choke solenoids back to the 50's. I've got a spare hanging around now.
