anyone out there own a johnson stinger. i have a 72 stinger 65 hp the water comes into the engine from the bottom and flows out of the top of
the engine.
how much water is sapost to flow out of the engine? a lot or a trickle. fist time out the boat seam to do good . but notice there wasnt a l lot of
water flow coming out, just a trickle 2nd time out,the engine was very sluggish. not a lot of power. and still very little water flow. we replaced the
spark plugs and noticed there was oil
around the bottom 2 spark plugs, have been told may be a head gasket. but engine was never run out of the water.

Re: cooling system question

oil around 2 stroke spark plugs is common. if the oil on outside... something likely amiss with the plug tightening or seal. if the oil on the inside covering electrode chances are it isnt firing... which would explain loss of power. likely your not getting good spark on that plug.
as to the cooling... if your engine has a pee hole it should be a steady clean strong string on startup... it may slow a bit when the thermostat opens. if your engine not a pee hole engine... then it will sputter water+exhaust out the hole at the rear top of the leg.
if your engine pees and doesnt pee well... might want to replace impeller check pump housing at same time to assure smooth surface... and see if that makes the difference.
also is this a salt water engine or a fresh water engine.... and has it ever seen saltwater?
