Hi,
I have an old seahorse hd25 serial number 532265. Can someone please tell me the year. Also where I may be able to find a carb kit.
I do have an old manual it says its for an hd20 though. In that manual it says 8oz of 40 weight oil to 1 gallon of gas. So am I correct assuming 32:1 is the correct ratio? Motor runs great but gas leaks from top of carb where needle sticks through (I am assuming the float).
Thanks in advance for the much appreciated guidance.

The ratio is 16:1, not 32:1 1/2 pint oil per gallon of gasoline

Your HD was built in the late '40s and early '50s. It and its 5hp bigger brother were the most popular fishing motors in their day. Go to the Antique Outboard Club website and you can find others to share info and parts for that classic motor. Unlike classic cars, those outboards are not worth a lot of money but are fun to get running again.

Howdy, OSR,

Welcome to iboats. :)

The HD-25 was made from 1946 to 1950. It is a 2.5HP that uses Champion J8C plugs gapped at .030". Points are set at .020".

The mix you quote is 8:1, not 32:1. Use modern TC-W3 outboard oil.

Guidance in finding the right parts can be found at www.aomci.org, the Antique Outboard Motor Club.

Good luck. :)
