Stuck thermostat 1989 J70TLCEM Help!!!!!!!!

Checked the stat on my 89 Johnson and it is stuck. What problems will this cause and what thermostat do i need and where can I get it? Help!!!!!

If you still have the 'old' version of thermostat, a vernaterm in a white housing with 3-fins going into a rubber bushing, replace it with the newer version!!
Should be automatic if you order on the old part number from a dealer. Remember however to change the rubber seal and cup with the new 'plastic' seat that fits the new version.
The new number is 0434137 for the thermostat.

Yes. I thing the new version is black or brown, has no fins, only a cone.

Thanx for the help!!! Am I correct in thinking that the engine most likely won't operate well if not at the right temp? Been having a problem with it not idling.

Got the parts, what is a good way to get the old cup and seal out?

Just flip it out with a screwdriver.
You may have to give the cup a 'knock' and deform it, but no big problem.
