What does 'thru-transom OMC engines' refer to???

Hi,

I am currently trying to replace the entire steering system on my older pontoon boat which has a Johnson 90HP (from around 1983) outboard engine. After looking at one possible solution, it states that it will not work with "older engines with thru-transom OMC engines" - see specs below.

Does anyone know what 'thru-transom OMC engines' refers to? I tried calling the seller but they were unable to help me. I would like to know whether this will work with my Johnson 90HP outboard?

The only thing I can remember about OMC "thru-transom steering" was that it was used on the very older stern drive mtrs.

These appear to be for inboard/outboard motors. Not outboard. Look for a system here on Iboats. Iboats is competitive and ships real fast.

I guess it is a typo error in the spec. The steering system used on the older OMC sterndrives was called 'True Course' steering and was a special dual cable system.

Thru-transom steering was used before "true course". I remember them well.
