Hi,

I have an old Johnson 60 hp hydro-electric drive motor that has not been started in a while and I no longer have the key. I wanted to replace the ignition switch so I have the keys. Before I order anything is there a way to tell what year/model the motor is to help in getting the correct part. I cant see anything written on it anywhere. I suspect it is early 70's.

thanks

There should be a model/serial number on the transom clamp. Also look on the engine block for a core plug about the size of a quarter, it will have numbers on it also.

The OMC replacement switch for a 1971 60hp is 0386947

Re: Johnson 60hp hydro-electric drive

At last I have found what I think is the core plug mentioned above. The numbers on it are A0115534 but it doesnt come up in any searches. How do I find what it is from these numbers?

Thanks

That is a serial number. An Evinrude dealer would be able to look it up. All of the public charts list by model number.

Many thanks for your reply. I thought this may be the case. I remember reading a post on this forum where someone did this check from a book or database fairly quickly. If anyone can help further it would be much appreciated. If not I will check with my local service guy when I can get my trailer roadworthy.

Thanks again
