I've been using a 1973 Johnson 25 hp motor (25R73) for quite a while now and its ran great. Recently, I've been having problems with the electric start. When the problems began, i would turn the key, and absolutely nothing would happen. No click from the solenoid, no turning of the starter. I kept turning the key out of frustration, and after about 10-15 turns, the starter would spin. But when i tried again, nothing would happen. I replaced the ignition, replaced the solenoid, and checked to make sure the starter works (it does) but still i don't get anything when i turn the key. I've been using the pull start, whih works fine, but was wondering if anyone had any ideas or if anyone has had similar problems, thanks

Here's a diagram that may help. I would double check all the connections are clean and tight. You'll need a multimeter to troubleshoot further.

I've had exactly the same problem with mine! It's a '67 Johnson 33 Electric. I found that the magneto plate had turned a half inch CCW and I turned it by hand a half inch CW and it started right up! Hope this helps!

Thanks for the replies. Daddypleo- its not that the engine isnt firing, its just that the starter motor wont spin at all. Im thinking of checking all the connections and checking the battery to be sure it has sufficient power. Thanks. Jasper do you have a website i can go to to check the diagram and if there are explanations?

The sure cure is to sell me that starter and starter mount. Then you won't have to worry about it :)
